The lack of integrated Transport policy and the privatisation and underdeveloped state of the railway network should not be an argument for increased internal air traffic but for a government investment in rail transport. While the government allows the Private sector access to national assets with minimal corporate accountability to the electorate; and with their priority being the relatively short-term financial bottom line, above the necessary social environmental and moral considerations given insufficient weight, then there cannot be a sustainable outcome. We should be planning AT LEAST across these dimensions with a window of the next 100 years. Climate data makes it clear that global CO2 build up started in the 19th century and that critical levels are being reached with little sight of real reduction. While Britain's government continues to insufficiently regard and to neglect to coordinate its responsibilities and accountability both nationally and globally, then citizens need to act to get clear acknowledgement of the problems and to encourage government to haul its perspectives out of the 18th Century and to become a little truly globally aware, beyond the merely financial and ephemeral. |

With the compliance of governments, the Airline Industry has been shirking it's responsibility to take effective action in support of the overall aim to reduce atmospheric damage and greenhouse gas emissions. It is now time for duty to be charged on air fuel, and for airlines and governments to take action to prevent the expansion of the airline industry, to reduce the number of flights, and to look at whatever possible means exist to reduce the emissions from aircraft engines. I will take action against plans to expand airports in my area and in the wider UK whenever it's appropriate. |
