Below is the name and personal statement of opposition to airport expansion of everyone who has signed the pledge.

| 4609 | Incensed | I am unable to comprehend why the governemnt perpetuates its plans for airport expansion apart, of course, from monetary gain. Apart from the obvious cost to our planet, increasingly the enforced intrusion into virtually everybody's each and every day lives must be in direct conflict with our civil liberties let alone human rights! I'm unable to comprehend why only the select few and not every airport in the country has an imposed moratorium in respect to curtailing night time flights. I am given to believe that our basic human rights entitles each and everyone to a good night's sleep. WHY, WHY, WHY the preceived stealth? Okay, I understand the class system snd the supercilious perception of some folk as to their superiority BUT we are all equal under The Law and deserve to be treated as such. What happened to conscience? |

| 4606 | Ian | I am deeply opposed to airport expansion which I believe is destructive to the environment and would further increase noise pollution. I am particularly concerned about the effect this would have on residents who are forced to relocate or will have their sleep disrupted by the expansion of airports and the building of unnecessary runways. If the government is serious about their pledge to reduce Britain's carbon footprint, then I urge them to rethink their airport expansion plans. I would also ask the government to consider the fact that airport expansion would increase congestion on our roads as a byproduct, due to an increase in the number of trips to and from airports. Seeing as our roads are already congested enough as it is, I believe that we cannot afford to proceed with the airport expansion. I urge our elected officials to listen to their voters and to rethink these clearly ill-thought out airport expansion plans. I'd also like to point out that any economic gain would be short-lived seeing as fuel is running out anyway and is becoming increasingly expensive. I believe that the costs of expansion, therefore, far outweigh the gains and that our interests are best served by considering environmental sustainability rather than unnecessary airport expansion. | 4604 | TimB | I support the movement to restrict, or stop, airport development because I believe that the impact of air travel on the environment and the communities close by airports is greater than the benifits people get by this form of travel. Continuing to fly using planes powered by inefficient propulsion units demonstrates the current societal trait of satisfying immediate desires regardless of the long term effects and the moral obligation we all share to protect our environment. The protection provided to the air travel industry by Governments and Trade organisations by protecting fares and routes as well as refusing to levy fuel tax and VAT on the industry reflects the lack of commitment our Government has in grasping the challenges faced by the threats to our environment. We have to make a stand!! The only way to prevent further damage to our world by high flying jets is to stop the development of more runways and bigger airports. |

It will create even greater levels of noise pollution, higher illegal levels of nitrous oxide pollution, and its the fastest cause of climate change in this country. We like to blame China, America for being bigger polluters than us, but with aviation we ARE the worst. This is something we can do to help the world, we as a country can do - stop taking so many short haul flights. Freeze the increase of these flights by refusing to allow the airport expansions.
