| 4640 | Alison Murphy | I am writing to express my sincere and deep felt objection to the proposed Airport expansions. I am apalled that we are even considering it at such a critical time for protecting our planet's future. If these proposals were allowed to go ahead it would be a clear demonstration that there is no substance whatsoever in the Government's commitment to tackling global warming. As one of the wealthiest countries in the world we must set an example to the rest of the world. After all flying is not a God given right and we all need to grow up and reduce the amount that we fly and definitely not increase it. Improvements in engine technology alone will not be enough, we must reduce the hugely damaging effects of aviation by flying less. How can we in the South West on the one hand be considering a Severn Barrage to create renewable energy while at the same time be considering expanding an airport which will be hugely damaging to the environment? We may still have time to save our planet but we will not succeed if insane proposals like these are allowed to go ahead. For the sake of our children please do not allow these proposals to go ahead. | 4633 | bluemoon | i belive flying is a luxury which we can no longer expect as a right. i work in an office and the majority of my co-workers reguarly take short haul flights for weekend visits abroad. hopefully the credit crunch will bring an end to this. i often think to myself is this way the of offices up and down the country steping on a plane for a shoppin and night out like once we went to our local town. this gives me concern as flying is costing the earth. As for the credit crunch i say bring it on as it may stop us all in our tracks and rethink how we waste and how we can save rescourses. I have commited myself to never own a car for now and i have not flown for 13 years. I do have a full and enjoyable life without these. I hope this is statement enough. |
