The government and other public bodies urge individuals like me to be more responsible in terms of personal car use in relation to the environment, but then set the terrible example of air travel expansion which is surely much much more damaging. Please listen to our voices and think twice about airport expansion. If expansion continues to be supported, I will take person action against this policy. |

| 20 | Ben Duncan | Climate chaos is undoubtedly the biggest single threat to civilisation as we know it - and aviation is the fastest growing contributor to the greenhouse gas emissions which cause it. We might be too late to prevent climate change - but even so, we must halt the relentless growth of the aviation industry for reasons of social justice too. The aviation industry externalises its pollution and noise, and the costs are borne by those least able to avoid them - the poorest in society, usually. The millions it receives annually from the UK government in tax breaks and hidden subsidies represent a simple transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich. We can't stop climate change overnight - but we must certainly try. Taxing aviation fuel and forcing airlines to pay their own clean-up costs and compensation to those whose lives they blight would be an immediate and effective step towards a more socially just society too. |

Therefore i oppose any further expansion of this industry and the lining of further fat cats pockets at our grandchildren's expense. |

If we are serious about preventing the worst effects of global warming, we need to make massive cuts to our emissions within the next 10-20 years. An expanision of UK airports would be a huge hindrance to this, encouraging a growth of air tavel, where a reduction is needed. As the government positions itself to be a champion of tackling climate change, I encourage it strongly to not allow an expansion of the UK's airports. I will personally take action to prevent such policies being followed and to stop airport extensions from being built. |
